Hello,
Im really new on the nurb's world, Im a polygon modeler. But I would like to learn the power of the nurb, specially for the nice fillet.
So i've watch several video tutorial of this site, and that dont looks very difficult:D.
Than i tried in real, and Im lost:p
Well, i just wanted to do a simple shape like this parfum:
https://www.boucheron.com/images_dyn_jpg/450/450/fi/pict/eau-de-parfum-trouble-recharge-75-ml-vaporisateur-PF-0402050.png
So i started with a Npower box like this:
http://site.voila.fr/belong/ForumFiles/fig01.jpg
than I move the vertex on the top like this:
http://site.voila.fr/belong/ForumFiles/fig02.jpg
Than i did a powerfillet, for the side of the box:
http://site.voila.fr/belong/ForumFiles/fig03.jpg
but there is problem:
http://site.voila.fr/belong/ForumFiles/fig04.jpg
I want the line to be flat, i dont know how to fix it. I Spend several hours to search, but still the same problem.
Do you have an idea? Is there a simple way to do this simple shape?
Another question:
About the Pwr_EditNRB i thought its was kind of edit poly, but when I use it, nothing move. For exemple, i activate the vertex mod, and tried to move one vertex, not possible. Its only in "element mode" that Im able to move something, but when im done of moving the element, it deseaper:eek: I dont understand why. I havent find any video about the Pwr_editNRB:(
I hope you understand my english!
Thank you.

with regards to your box... You basically have to do the fillet first...

I havent find any video about the Pwr_editNRB:(I have been telling them for a while it should be renamed, vertex mode should be removed, and translation should be disabled for all subobject modes. Pwr_EditNRB is in no way like the Editable objects in standard max. Once collpased to an EditNRB the construction history is gone and therefore you can't modify it the way you can poly objects. You have a few options:
1) With Power NURBS 6.0 you can use a lot of the standard Max modifiers to alter your object. NOTE: Pwr Objects don't support passing subobject selections up the stack so you are limited in what can be done.
2) You can use the Surface Editing feature of the Pwr_EditNRB. This will extract the selected face(s)to a standard Max NURBS object. Here you can modify the CVs as you would a poly. When done, select the Pwr_EditNRB and press Finish Edit. It will replace the object with the now modified data. EDIT: This isn't a perfect technique and could cause gaps in the surfaces depending on how much modification you do.
Hope that helps,
-Eric

ok thanks.
olaf--- when I do that, if i move the vertex, it cancel my power fillet:(
Pixel Monkey---- Its nice the surface editing! thanks.
But sometimes, I dont know why, when Im done, I click finish editing and it says there is an error, no face selected..
For the pb of my bottle, i find another solution with the tutorial "how to make an editable cap". Is there an option to have to automatic cap? For me the solution is to split the spline, so I can do a power blend. Is it a good way?
I have another question! when I draw a spline. For example in bezier. Is it possible to than change the type of vertex? For example to linear?

Ok Thanks.
Im starting to do a new model, its just a wing of a car, but im stock since 3hours.
http://site.voila.fr/belong/ForumFiles/Nurbsfig01.jpg
Its 3 time the same object.
As you can see, there is a line, and I dont know how to smooth it, to not have those fine bump. Ive tried to touch many option every where in the railsweep (its only a rail sweep) but i cant solve the pb, its never perfect:(
Do you have an idea?
Thanks a lot

Can you post a file of that section of the model so we can try finding the best way to build it? Be sure to post what version of Max you are using so if we post a Max file it is something you can open.

Ok thanks, this is the file. its in max2009 SP1.
For the surface analysis, is there a mode with line reflexion?

no idea?
Thanks.

You are trying to make one large complex shape rather (using complex curves), rather than a simple one and cut the details with trim. Try creating the side panel without the wheel well and other cut in details, only use a few simple shapes. Then use Trim curves to cutout the needed panel detail.
I am extremely busy with work right now so my time to help will be limited through the end of the month.

Do you mean Zebra stripes? Unfortunately we currently do not support Zebra plotting.

yes Zebra stripes sorry. Ok, maybe in the next release!:D
Thanks again for your help.

You could create your own using gradient lines, and then render that out to a spherical map. The spherical map could then be mapped to an object using standard spherical mapping and using show in viewport.
NOTE: It can cause artifacts to appear in the viewport, that aren't there in renders. This is due to viewport accuracy of display maps.

well, if its only diffus, I dont see any problem, but when its reflexion, yes, i can see some bad distortion. Normaly in the file I've posted the object already have a material to render with line. But only on the render...

What I am referring to is what can be found in this (http://www.npowersoftware.com/forums/showthread.php?t=880) thread. The viewport representation of the lines is inaccurate to the render results.
Yes you need to rebuild your surfaces. Make sure you use corners where you have sharp turns, and make the overall shape with blends/rail sweeps and then trim more complex shapes away. Which is how it is done in other packages, when dealing with NURBS. Have you watched the Car videos (http://npowersoftware.com/nurbs/pntutorials_advanced_Car.htm) that Eric Pinkel did for nPower?

The easiest way to edit your box is to use the sub-object Vertex selection. via the right click menu or in the sub-object dropdown.
