Hi,
I'm new to nurbs modelling, and I'm trying to create a "T" shape with the demo package.
I'm trying to create a structure similar to the yas marina hotel roof, I'm not having much luck with the initial shape so I could do with some advice on which technique to approach this shape with.
I don't want to run before I can walk, with this impressive software, so which method should i use?
I've tried rail sweep and power detailer but I get stuck at this point (see pic) It's a mess I know. Please could someone advise me on the best way to start this shape.

Thanks

I would probably just use to Cylinders Boolean together to get the base shape. Then use Filleting or Trimming and Blending to get the desired transition between the objects. Or just two cylinders with the desired gap, trim a hole in one and then blend the surfaces to get the desired shape.

I am kind of confused at what is going on in the pictures since they differ greatly in what they are showing.

lol....YOUR confused, guess I WAS trying to run before I could walk.
I'll give your method a go, It sounds much better/logical really.

thanks

I'm really struggling with this..what I'm trying to do is model the Yas Marina Hotel,

and the roof is holding me back.

I'm close but I keep getting bad results. My problem is I can't figure out what Sketch shapes to start with, every time I try to Blend or RailSweep it always ends up in a mess. I know the designers Asymptote used Nurbs in the design process (maybe even powernurbs) but I can't get started.
It's probably a simple answer, but what is the best Outline to begin this shape? I am working my way through the tutorials but I'm getting impatient with this structure. I'm trying to get a smooth flowing result, and haven't managed to get this with the cylinders.

Start simple and trim out the details. Try starting with a Pwr_Sphere or simple rail sweep network to get the overall shape. Now use trim to cut out the holes in the top and the curved side shapes.

Thanks, This is where I always run into problems. Could you point out what I'm doing wrong ? These are just sketchs that i've split in the middle and simple blends. It's just the junction I@m having trouble with.

What would a simple rail sweep network look like?

Again start basic, instead of complex. Don't try and form the union with rail sweeps. Create the back as a solid piece, create the connection as a separate piece with the start at where you want the blend to end. Now trim the hole for the blend so that it creates your desired blend.
