Hi,

How exactly do I purge and/or reset the render mesh to remedy this kind of thing?

Thanks!

For trouble-shooting/work-around purposes you can activate "Render Viewport Mesh" in the Rendering Approximation rollout, and then force a re-tessellation (by changing the viewport mesh quality, for example). Changing the render mesh quality and re-rendering may also help.

However, it might not be that the render mesh itself is bad. It could be z-buffer conflict flicker (which happens if different tris are almost coincident). Make sure that 2-sided Mesh is disabled and try re-rendering.

Another possibility is a trimming issue causing tessellation artifacts. In your example, does the viewport mesh look fine at all quality settings? Sometimes a mesh can look weird if the trimming information on it isn't good enough, but the visual artifacts won't necessarily manifest at each tessellation quality level.
