This is my first attempt with Power NURBS. Following a couple of weeks working through the various tutorials, I was finally ready to create this spaceship which is seen here. I spend much of my leisure time creating mods for the game X3. This ship is called "Evader":

Very cool! Nice job. A very NURBSy shape (with nice smooth surfaces).

Thanks Dave!
It took me a while learning Power NURBS, but I'm beginning to see it as a super adjunct to my modeling in poly's. Once thing I found with the spaceship model was the file became so big that 3DS had a hard time dealing with it. My solution towards the end was to turn it into an Editable NURBS Brep Object which collapsed the stack causing significant file size reduction. I'm assuming doing that is a valid method?

Yes, you can "collapse" the stack by converting it to an editable mesh. However, that makes it hard to go back and modify. One way to greatly reduce the size overhead is to use the "Render Viewport Mesh" option. Otherwise, we keep around two different meshes for convenience. That option is found under the "Render Approximation" submenu. Let me know if you can't find it. Working in a single viewport also helps, as Max duplicates the information for each viewport.

Thanks Dave! I'll try that. :)

Nice work, looks cool and organic, maybe you should add deeper detail to it. or is it for animating?

Thanks Pleiades. I'm definitely open to suggestions being a beginner with this stuff. Any particular "deeper details" in mind? And no, this ship isn't for animating per se - though as I mentioned, I am an X3 fan who puts custom models into that 3D game. However, total poly count at this stage is still considerably below acceptable limits,so added detail is certainly doable.

What is the name evader meant for?
Hi sreeja. The story behind the name of this ship (Evader) is a somewhat long one. In a nutshell, when I started modeling for X3 as a hobby, I realised that some ships had higher "survival quotient" depending on their geometry profile. Evader is the name I've given a series of ships that I've modeled for that game.
Just for fun, here are a couple of latest pics of this ship in action:

Excellent work there, your details look good and I like the texture work too. Nice job! :D
For a suggestion(s), larger renders and possibly put 'panels' onto the ship or make it look 'cladded'.
Again, nice work though!
