What is the proper way to get a Pwr_Railsweep and subsequent Pwr_Shell to render properly. I have a somewhat complicated railsweep that is shelled to about 0.25 depth. Just when I think I have the displayed mesh (2-sided vs. 1-sided) to work, I open the file up the next day and it doesn't render properly.

I have tried all combinations of mesh display
RS 2-sided and Shell 1-sided
RS 2-sided and Shell 2-sided
RS 1-sided and Shell 1-sided
RS 1-sided and Shell 2-sided.
as well flipping surface orientations of each.
I want the shell to render to see all outer surfaces...when the Shell is put as 1-sided, the underside is not visible.
I also have tried increasing the depth of the shell and that doesn't seem to be the problem (0.25 is sufficient to not bleed the backside through)

I will try to get the example uploaded today so someone may look at it if they like.

Basically, I am just wanting to know what SHOULD work and be the proper way to do it.

Thanks in advance

I look froward to reviewing the file.

Question: Are you rendering with Max or Metal Ray?
Question: Does the Shell Look ok in the Viewport?

Sincerly,

Eric

Okay - here is the file uploaded.

Rendering in Vray 1.5

The funny thing is that another smaller piece of the fender works okay - done the same way.

They display okay in the viewport when either the shell is 2-sided or the subobject Railsweep is selected and displayed also.

Have you tried rendering the viewport mesh? If the viewport looks ok, it might also render perfectly. Here's how to render the viewport mesh.

1) Select the object(s)
2) Go to the Pwr_NURBS command
3) In the "Render Approximation" submenu there is a check box "Render Viewport Mesh"; click that option
4) Render
