Video pretty much explains it,
the original object renders fine but after boolean subtracting an object it renders with black smudges. Remove the object and it's fine.

Very nice Video thank you for posting.
There is an obvious problem please post the simple file here for me to test on my internal build.
Part of the issue may come from using Max splines but I am just guessing.

I would post the file like the other Eric suggested. My guess would be super thin surfaces and/or 2-sided mseshes. Raytracers like Vray, finalrender, mental ray, etc don't usually handle extremely thin/overlapping surfaces very well. Given the viewport results my guess is the issue is the 2-sided option.
*Note: I really wish there was an .ini or other preference that could be set to make objects 1-sided by default instead of the 2-sided option.

I agree, it definitely looks like having two faces coincident.
In fact, Eric (2) you are right it appears, remembering I had to remove the final Render renderer before posting I tried the same model with the scanline and it renders fine. Posting the Max 9 file with just the problem piece and boolean subtracted with a PBox.
Why does the program create two objects when using the PN primitives, the PSketch object and the actual object?
Since it appears to be a renderer problem at this point what do you suggest I do, contact Cebas?
Have you ever contacted them about receiving a NFR copy for testing with your product?
Not that you'll necessarily get one, August Swanson (Darkling Simulations)contacted Edwin (Cebas) last summer about getting a copy and he said he'd send him one and to my knowledge he hasn't heard back from him.
