It is a long time what i see nPowerNurbs first time. I see all of tutorial-movies and made a lot plate of anything. This plate(as you can see on the picture) i try to make it in a some 7 days and result ? = nothing. If.,, you know - how can i do it by using PowerNurbs then I a will be very glad, thanx for some tips and your time.

(Tested single plate by RailSweep or pwr_blend but the output was very bad.. :( )

I atached too a max file.

I would make your rail sweep beyond the edges (using only 4 sides), and then use trim to get the final shape you want. Atleast make the top edge of the hood (where it meets the wind shield) extened beyond the desired shape and then trim out the area from there.

From what I have found a standard NURBS surface is typically only 4-sided, other shapes are trimmed from the 4 sided shapes.

Edit: Looking at your image use the bottom edge (by the nose of the car) as your shape and the 2-sides as your rails. Create a new top edge that is one edge, that creates the shape of the top edge. Then use your top curved edge(s) to trim out where the windshield meets the hood.

Edit 2: Tried here real quick in Max 2009 and worked as expected. So create your rail sweep using 4 curves (2 shapes and 2 rails) without and hard turns. Then trim the rest away.

I'm not sure what you mean by "single plate", but you should be able to create a rail sweep there on the hood of that car.

Hi,

i am not a rookie. If you have a moment then look at my galery at here.: http://www.maxarea.com/image.php?id=108

single plate = single(one elegant piece of plate(hood)).

I cant to make one elegant hood. This is my first problem with PowerNurbs.

If you follow what I outlined use 4 curves, with no corners in the middle of the curves, for the rail sweep, then trim the other curved edge where the hood meets the windshield you should get what you want.

I will veryfying what you tell to me tomorrow and then i put here a output as a picture. (but i think a tested this some day ago) for this time = thanx.

Hi,

I tested trimming, split, 2x rail, 4x curve but the output is not good. Look at the pics.

That isn't what I told you to do. I said to trim the surface not the edges. Shift drag the bottom shape to the end of the rails. Edit the points to get a curved shape for the top edge then trim away using the top curve.

-Eric

Edit: See the attached image for a workflow that works for me. And from files from high end CAD packages this is how they are created a stored. Most surfaces from other packages are one square surface with the proper contour trimmed away to the final shape.

I saw your attached images. It is not way to making this plate because the windshield curve is not "technically" right. Look at the picture 1 = you can see that the windshield curve is working with Z axis very specific... a trim - which you use is no way for this problem. As you can see on the picture 2 (one of reference pics) if the windshield-curve dos not go corectly then a output cant be nice.

1) Your blueprints aren't technically right either.
2) Create a Pwr_Plane shape it to get the contours you want and trim the final shape using a 2D sketch made in the top or side view. Like you would if you were making it from sheet metal.
3) Use 3 or 4 shapes and rails for your rail sweep instead of 2. It is a complex shape and you won't get it in one go. Again extend the shape and trim the final outter edges.

You need to rethink how you want to make this.

Thanx for new ideas, for this time. I will try it to get better result then i will reporting new state of works :)
