Power Surface Fillet direction

When a Power Surface Fillet is created, it does not appear to be possible to control which side of the surface is filleted and trimmed. To make this tool useful there needs to be a way to choose which side of the 2 surfaces you want to remain. Similar to the way a Power Trim works, with the drop-down option to "remove left of curve" or "remove right of curve".

Hi Marc,

I think you are correct. You will have to use the Trim command (after filleting) in order to get the trim result that you want.

Dave,

Thanks, but I don't think that will work. If the fillet and resulting trims are on the wrong side, I don't see any way to correct that with a subsequent trim.

Actually, I'm not looking for a workaround. I'm usually successful at finding a different method to use. The reason I posted this in Suggested Improvements is because I feel it is something that should be corrected.

In general, the tools in Power NURBS, the various ways of creating objects, are great. I'm hoping that future development will focus on improving existing features, making them more reliable and consistent across features.

There is one more thing that I noticed on this subject. When a surface fillet is first created, there is a dropdown list that includes:

no trimming
minimal trim
maximal trim
bevel trim
blend trim

I thought that this might control the trim direction, but what it does is affect the way the fillet is created at the ends.

Hi Marc,

Right. Those options actually control the way the fillet trims between the surfaces (when the two surfaces are of different widths).

Well,

Here I am again trying to use the surface fillet tool. Still wishing it had the option to control fillet orientation.

Hi Marc,

Thanks. I think it is a good suggestion. We are planning on making various improvements this year, and will consider your suggestion too.
