Different quality at different rendersize

Hello,

yesterday I got a STEP file from a customer. I rendered the BREP Object for preview in 720 pix wide. Everything looked just perfect!

Now I am rendering the same Object (nothing changed) in a 4.000 pixel resolution. Now the BREP-Object seems to have some mesh problems (which causes weird reflections on the object).
Do I need to change anything before rendering a BREP object in high resolution?

Smile rendermesh issue

Are you using the render mesh controls? this will let you customize the render tessellation settings. I am interested to see the problems. Would it be possible to send us both images with a call out on the areas effected?

Sincerly,

Eric

Hello Eric.

Unfortunatley I am not allowed to show anything of this project to anyone else but the customer.

But I have changed the PT render setting now:
- "Size Dependent Approx"
- Face Approx Angle: 5
- Face Chord %Pixels: 0.25

Now the result looks much better!

There are still a few holes in the mesh. But I might be able to repair this in post.

Do you think some more changes in the PT render settings might enhance the objects quality even more?

Hello Balu,

It sounds like you are using the demo version (there shouldn't be any holes in the mesh unless you have the demo version). The demo version is limited to low resolution renderings.

The customer version should render it just fine.

Hello Dave,

no, I am definitely not using a trial version!
My real name is Mirko Heimburger. And I remember several emails between you and me concerning problems with the license keys. But this had been fixed.

I will send you 2 small pictures via pm.

Regards,
Mirko (Balu)

Hi Mirko,

O.k. I saw the images. It looks to me like the surfaces aren't sewn together at that one point. Have you tried using the Pwr_Join to join them together? That might fix the problem.

It doesn't look like a "hole" to me. It looks more like a gap or seam.

Let me know if the Pwr_Join helps.

Hi Mirko,

Would you like me to take a look at the actual model to see what the problem is?

Hello Dave.

Thank you for these tips. I will try to Join the BREP object next week.

Unfortunately I am most likely not allowed to give the file away. It is a brand new product of our customer. But thank you very much for this offering!!!
I think I will try to fix it in post.

At the moment the bigger problem seems to be the installation error of the PT_viewer (I have sent you an email).

Have a nice weekend.

Nda

We can always do an NDA that should take care of any issues your client may have.

Hi Eric,

thanks for this offering! I know that you could sign an NDA. And I know that one can trust you guys!

But in this case it is easier to fix it in post than having controversy with my boss and then with the client about why this has to be done or not.
Several animation have to be finished within a few days. So I am already rendering (have to deal with the given time frame).

But thanks again for this perfect support!

Kind Regards,
Mirko

PS: A few days ago, I tried to join the object. But the whole object is ONE object already. I can not select any subobjects or edges.
Will fix it in post

Red face

I would really like to take a look at the issue. Maybe you could send us the model once the project is complete. We can create a secure FTP window when you're ready.

Sincerely,

Eric
