Objects don't re-tessellate during animation
Hello, it's David from Looop CGI again.
Some time ago we bought Power Translators 6 to get the CAD data into 3dsMax but we are forced to use version 8 viewer for rendering because of the crashing bug with many objects. With v8 viewer we have another problem (apart from losing UVs I wrote about in a different thread) that during animations the objects tessellate only once at the beginning and after the camera moves closer the re-tessellation is not triggered. I saw in the release notes that this has been fixed in 8.3 but unfortunately the viewer is still version 8. Would it be possible to get newer version of the viewer? Thanks a lot! David |

8.4 Viewer Posted
Hey Elpin,
I just wanted to let you know that we posted a new Viewer (8.4) that has the dynamic tessellation for renderings. Hopefully that solves some of the issues you have seen. Erik |

Actually the latest version of the Viewer has a different problem... *sigh*
It doesn't render any of the assemblies. It just gets stuck on "updating objects" rendering stage as soon as the first nurbs assembly comes into calculation. I made a test file with one object in an assembly. It doesn't render. But if I extract the assembly then this object renders fine. If it helps you can download the test scene I made from the link below: http://www.thelooopcgi.com/pwrNurbs840-test.rar Please let me know if you need any additional info to fix the problem. Thanks! |

Render Assemblies Problem
Hey Elpin,
We are close to releasing a pair of Release/Viewer patches and thought we would run it by you in case you wanted to try testing it out. The Release version can be found below. I can post a viewer up tomorrow for testing as well. This should address: Render Assembly Crash/Hang Dynamic Tessellation of Assemblies Incorrect Normals on Assemblies General Max scene file stability, especially after a render Erik Release 2012 32 Bit Release 2012 64 Bit |

Thanks Erik!
Unfortunately we don't have a v8 license so we can't really try them out (the evaluation warning when 3dsmax opens doesn't go well on our render farm). Also we are using 3dsmax 2011. So we are eagerly awaiting the 2011 Viewer to be published :-) |
