  Overview  

The Power Sphere tool provides a convenient way to create a spline cage that consists of 1 or 3 Rail Sweep surfaces. The initial shape is a full sphere or partial sphere with a slice removed from it. The shape of the sphere can be modified by editing the points and curves of the associated spline cage sketch or using the Sub-Object Point or Sub-Object Curve editing on the Power Sphere object itself.

Note that the modification of the Radius, Slice On, Slice From and Slice To elements will reset the spline cage to the shape of the cylinder and loose any edits done on the spline cage. Once you have modified the spline cage, you can change the number of segments without resetting the shape because the new spline cage is generated using the existing surfaces.

  Power Sphere Parameters  

Radius: Radius of the sphere

Slice On: If checked this will enable the Slicing of the sphere and creation of corresponding start and end face rail sweeps.

Slice From: Angle in degrees where the slice starts from relative to the X Axis being zero degrees.

Slice To: Angle in degrees where the slice ends relative to the X Axis being zero degrees. Note that the slice will always proceed in a counter clockwise angle from the "Slice From" angle to the "Slice To" angle.

  Spline Cage Settings  

Spline Cage Type:

  • Smooth Bezier Curves: the Bezier points will all be "Smooth"

  • C1 Bezier Curves: the Bezier points will all be "C1 Bezier Points"

Latitude Segs: specifies the number of segments along latitude of the sphere (from one pole of the sphere to the other).

Longitude Segs: specifies the number of segments radially around the sphere.

Rotational Symmetry: specifies that a symmetry should be applied on a plane passing through the axis of the cylinder with normal vector being the Y axis. Rotational symmetry will force the Slice To angle to be 180 degrees if it is more than that.
